“America must understand that India is an independent nation and will make decisions based solely on its own interests…” — Jaishankar’s clear message amid Trump’s claims.

NEW DELHI External Affairs Minister S jayshankar After the Pahalgam attack, India’s Operation Sindoor delivered a crippling blow to terrorist camps in Pakistan.
The military actions taken by both sides drew global attention.
Amidst this, U.S. President Donald Trump suddenly announced a ceasefire between India and Pakistan—a move that sparked controversy.
Now, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has responded.
Currently on a tour of Europe, Jaishankar discussed the conflict and ceasefire with Pakistan in an interview with Dutch public broadcaster NOS, marking the first time he spoke on the matter.
He stated, “I believe the U.S. understands that India is a very independent nation, and it will make decisions based on its own interests.”
Speaking about the operation, Jaishankar said the message was clear: if there is another attack like the one on April 22, there will be a strong retaliation. “We will not spare the terrorists.
If they are in Pakistan, we will strike them wherever they are. This operation was a message. For now, there is a ceasefire by mutual agreement.”
When asked if the operation was merely symbolic, Jaishankar replied, “Call it what you like, but let me tell you—it sent a clear message.”
He added that the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, where 26 unarmed, innocent civilians were killed in front of their families, was also aimed at harming tourism and inciting religious tensions.
Jaishankar further emphasized that understanding the current situation requires looking at Pakistan’s leadership—particularly the Army Chief—who, he said, takes decisions based on religious motivations.
On questions related to trade with the U.S., Jaishankar said talks are ongoing. “Discussions are in progress, so we’ll have to wait and see.”
India’s Operation Sindoor was a decisive military response after the Pahalgam terror attack,
targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan and sending a strong message of zero tolerance toward cross-border terrorism.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar asserted that India is a sovereign nation and will make decisions solely based on its national interests, regardless of international pressure or claims.
Jaishankar emphasized that any future attacks like the one on April 22 will be met with a strong and direct response, indicating a firm stance against terrorism, even beyond borders.
The sudden ceasefire announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump caused controversy,
especially as he attempted to take credit for de-escalating tensions—something India officially denied, insisting that such matters are bilateral.
India accused Pakistan of supporting terror and highlighted that the attack in Pahalgam was not just an act of terror but also an attempt to damage tourism and inflame communal sentiments.
It’s worth noting that President Trump has repeatedly taken credit for the ceasefire between India and Pakistan,
claiming that his trade negotiations played a key role in de-escalating tensions.
However, India has firmly rejected Trump’s claims, reiterating that any issue related to Jammu and Kashmir will be resolved bilaterally between India and Pakistan.
To recall, India-Pakistan relations hit a new low after the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
India held Pakistan responsible for supporting cross-border terrorism.
On May 7, India targeted terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
In retaliation, Pakistan escalated the conflict by launching drone and missile attacks on military and civilian areas in multiple Indian cities.
Then, on May 10, a sudden ceasefire was announced.
