Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran expressed deep sorrow over the incident, saying:

> “We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident involving Air India Flight 171. The grief we feel at this time is beyond words. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who lost their loved ones and with those who were injured. We stand in solidarity with the affected families and communities during this unimaginable time.”

When and How Did the Crash Happen?

Air India’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, Flight AI171, was en route from Ahmedabad to London’s Gatwick Airport when it crashed just minutes after takeoff. Onboard were 232 passengers and 10 crew members.

According to reports, shortly after departure, the pilot issued a distress signal (Mayday call). However, after the initial emergency communication, there was no further contact between the cockpit and air traffic control. The aircraft reportedly only reached a maximum speed of 174 knots (around 322 km/h), far below normal cruising speed.

The crash has left the nation in mourning. Tata Group’s swift and compassionate response—providing financial aid and medical support—demonstrates not just corporate responsibility, but a deep sense of humanity during a time of national tragedy.
