New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is on a six-day visit to Britain and Ireland. On Wednesday, he met British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Additionally, today he spoke at the think tank ‘Chatham House‘ in London on the topic “India’s Rise and Its Role in Global Affairs.”

Notably, before Jaishankar arrived at Chatham House, some Khalistan supporters were present there, chanting anti-India slogans.

When Jaishankar left Chatham House, there was an attempt to attack him.

According to a report by ‘The Times of India,’ a person came in front of Jaishankar’s car and began insulting and tearing the Indian national flag.

On seeing this, security personnel immediately apprehended him and moved him away from the car.

Meanwhile, some Khalistan supporters were holding Khalistan flags and raising slogans.

The Kashmir issue will be resolved after reclaiming PoK: Jaishankar

When questioned about the Kashmir issue at Chatham House, Jaishankar said that the issue would be fully resolved once Pakistan vacates Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

He further stated, “We have done a good job addressing most of the problems in Kashmir. In my view, the abrogation of Article 370 was an important step.

After that, restoring development, economic activities, and social justice in Kashmir was the second step.

The high voter turnout in the recent elections was the third step.

Now, we are just waiting for the part that is illegally occupied by Pakistan. When that is returned, I assure you that the Kashmir issue will be fully resolved.”

What is the objective of the London-Ireland visit?

The purpose of this visit is to enhance the India-UK comprehensive strategic partnership,

which includes trade, health, education, people-to-people connections, and defense cooperation.

After the UK visit, Jaishankar will visit Ireland on March 6-7, where he plans to meet Irish Foreign Minister Simon Harris, hold discussions with other officials, and engage with the Indian diaspora community.

However, the visit faced disruptions as Khalistan supporters protested outside, raising anti-India slogans.

A protester attempted to desecrate the Indian national flag in front of Jaishankar’s car but was swiftly detained by security personnel.

Jaishankar also spoke on the Kashmir issue, stating that it would be fully resolved once Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) is reclaimed.

He highlighted that the abrogation of Article 370, development efforts, and strong voter turnout in recent elections have significantly addressed the region’s challenges.

His visit aims to strengthen the India-UK strategic partnership, covering trade, health, education, and defense, followed by a diplomatic outreach in Ireland to engage with Irish officials and the Indian diaspora.
